Withdraw FII

Our article argues that fabricated or induced illness (FII) should no longer be used as a child protection category. It examines the weak evidence base underpinning FII, challenges widely cited claims about child deaths, and shows how the label can promote parent-blame and harmful safeguarding practice, particularly for families of disabled and neurodivergent children. The article calls for the withdrawal of current guidance and the development of evidence-based, proportionate approaches to safeguarding.
