Adoption

My research on children leaving care for adoption and special guardianship

So far I have carried out two studies. Media coverage includes the BBC, Bureau of Investigative journalists, the Guardian, Community Care

The first study asks the question

Are Adoption and special guardianship additions to care rather than replacements?

This was first reported in the Guardian and then published in Community Care. This study has been updated and submitted as evidence to the Care Crisis Review

The second study considers

Differences between rates of adoption in local authorities and their links to child protection acitivity

This latest research follows two cohorts of children from birth to their 5th birthday in 2016-17 and 2011-12 and shows major differences in rates of adoption between local authorities which have been called a postcode lottery for adoption
